Video Game Soundtracks So Good We Listen To On Repeat

Welcome back to another team talk, where we share some stories, good and bad, and share our deepest and darkest gaming secrets (sometimes at least). This week Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is coming out, and when you think of Mario you instantly just hear that epic song that gets stuck in your head until the end of time. So this week we are going to take a look at some Video Game Soundtracks So Good We Listen To Them On Repeat.

Time to pull out the Persona 5 card lads, I’ve not talked about this game in ages and I need to, not only because the game is great, but also the music!

There is no better way to start your day with a little bit of the Persona 5 sound track, it just gets me hyped up because it’s not just random sounds but it could just be a actual song I would listen to on a daily basis from my spotify playlist.

And speaking about Spotify, they recently added all the Persona music to Spotify! So this is the first and only Video Game music so good I actually have it added to my playlist with my favorite music!

This is easy for me, still today one of my most listened to albums, is the Life is Strange Soundtrack. The gorgeous music that perfectly complimented the vibes and emotions of the beautiful narrative of the game, hugely effective and impacting, it was music that stayed with you, playing a huge part in making the gaming experience even more memorable. The tracks and artists all have an indie / folk vibe, and I’m a rocker you’d think I wouldn’t like this… But once you’ve played the game, when you revisit the soundtrack it takes you right back there, and it’s a beautiful thing. I find it so soothing, it relaxes me, and takes me away to a happy daydream. It’s my go-to when I’m in a particular mood. Some shout-out’s for some of my favourite tracks on it are “Angus & Julia Stone – Santa Monica Dream” and “Syd Matters – To All of You.”
If you bought the physical limited edition of Life is Strange you were treated to the soundtrack disc included in it which is how I first got my hands and ears on it. But you can also listen to the full soundtrack via Spotify, YouTube, and other streaming services. 🙂

This week I am going way back to the childhood to embrace an OST that I have vivid memories of; the game in question…. Jeff Wayne’s The War of the Worlds.

This may be a game that you have never heard of, but I’m almost certain you would have heard of the book… (or at very least the Movie starring a certain Tom Cruise).
The game itself was a “a real-time strategy video game developed by Rage Software Limited and released for Windows-based PCs in 1998” and was nothing special, however the OST was something to behold!

If you’ve never experienced the music to this story it is something to behold. Something that I have very fond memories of when growing up. The track in particular that comes to mind when I think of this OST can be listened to below and is Track #4.

One of the greatest games of all time, also has one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. Super Mario Galaxy has an amazing soundtrack that is (or at least was at the time) different than other Mario soundtracks, An orchestral soundtrack was used for this game to make it feel more adventurous and epic. It was composed by Koji Kondo and Mahito Yokota, It is a masterpiece of music composure for games. I’ve listened to the music of this game countless times and maybe it’s nostalgia, but there’s just something special about this games’ soundtrack.

It’s worth a listen, especially masterpieces like Gusty Garden (Wind Garden in some versions of the OST).

  1. I don’t think I ever really listen OST of a game, but I always loved the music from the DMC series. It always was a good complement to the on-screen action and help for the immersion. A small indie game that I found the music’s awesome was Concept Destruction.
