Our Games of the Year 2020

The year is almost over so today we are going to take a look at some of our favorite games of the year.

Dex Fragg – Founder

Welp, here we go… Persona 5 Royal! ….. if I played it….. but I didn’t. So there goes my regular joke so now let’s go to the real thing, shall we?

My game of the year is definitely Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. I just loved all aspects of it, it was a massive game with an amazing story that felt like 10+ mini-stories that accumulated into 1 bigger story. the whole game just build on what they did with Assassins Creed Odyssey and that is one of my favorite games of all time, so playing this game brought me fully back to how I felt playing that.

My game of the year is easily without a doubt, the mighty, The Last of Us Part II. I will add it was perhaps always going to be my GOTY because I had no interest whatsoever in playing other big hitters like Ghost of Tsushima, Spiderman, Final Fantasy, etc, they are just not my style. But any apocalypse or horror related games will get me excited. Firstly I will say I of course LOVED the several strong female characters, and the inclusions of several LGBTQ characters done tastefully and respectfully. That honestly felt very important to me and made me incredibly happy! But the amazing characters were not the only reason why it is my favourite game of the year, it also had 10/10 quality in every other aspect, gameplay, visuals, and story. The story, imo, was so incredibly masterfully written, so clever, so deep, it really made you think. And did indeed move me enough to pluck some tears from me at the end! Not many games have ever done that to me… So I applaud you TLoU2, you are a true great! <3

My game of the year has got to be F1 2020! For the first time in a long time I actually decided to play a game around its release time and boy was I glad I did.

The F1 games have always been special to me, but for a while I had moved away from the series due mainly because of the outrageous online grinds that were introduced. The 2020 version however went back to basics in a way, as they reintroduced a much more single player focus.

I was blown away by the speed now on offer and the graphics that were on display throughout the whole experience.

If they keep this way of thinking up I will certainly be returning to the series next year on release! I also cannot wait to see what the PS5 has to offer this series!

My game of the year has to be without a doubt Cyberpunk 2077… Just kidding it’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Spider-Man is one of my favorite heroes from any form of media. And as a fan of the original game on the PS4, I was excited to see how this game would turn out. Especially on the PlayStation 5. With the new faster loading, thanks to the fast speed SSD within the Playstation 5. This game feels like a great continuation of the Spider-Man video game franchise. And even though this game is only half as long as the original, it’s still a great game and deserves recognition for everything it gets right. And a lot of games this year didn’t get many important things right. Some games released half-done, some with half-assed stories, some were just disappointing, and Spider-man was one of the few games that delivered on everything it was promised and made-out to be.

2020 was a hell of a year. But this year, we also got a whole ton of great games. Ranging from a whole lot of great to indie games, to a whole lot of amazing AAA games! But to me, one game stood out above all of the rest. Are you ready kids!?

SpongeBob Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated was my Game Of The Year for 2020! I can hear many of you through the screen now, “What about Last Of Us 2!? Ghost Of Tsushima!?!? DOOM ETERNAL!?!?”, and the answer to that is, I haven’t played any of them! But even if I did, SpongeBob is still one of the best times I’ve had this year. I used to love the original as a kid. I played it day in and day out. The day the remaster got revealed, I never pre-ordered a game faster than I did with it. I counted down the days. I watched for the delivery man to come. The second it came to my house, I popped that bad boy in and instantly played it. I dropped EVERYTHING for it! What a perfect remaster it was too. The game was exactly how it was 15 years ago, except made better with some quality of life changes. Plus, the game looks so friggin gorgeous! If you look at the original, it looks dark, and muddy, then the remake turns it up 10 notches and makes everything colorful and cartoony! Heck, I’ve thought of replaying it already this year!

I can’t wait to play all the other games that came out this year, but I also can’t wait to see what my GOTY is next year as well. Maybe it’ll be another SpongeBob game!
