I think New world Might be one of the current best MMO games to play if you are new to them. It’s not as big to get lost easily but it still has enough content to keep you entertained for at least 100+ hours. Having played 60 hours in a week, I don’t feel like I am anywhere close to the actual end game while being maxed level already. Please enjoy our New World Review!
New World is an open-world MMORPG developed and published by Amazon Games. It was released exclusively for PC via steam on September 9, 2021.
In New World, you have a lot of options to pick your own adventures in regions within the main story but also outside of it, but sadly, its story, other than the introduction falls away pretty quickly. 99% of the story is being told through text and it feels like it interrupts the gameplay a lot if you actually wanna go through it all, but the gist of it is that some spirit possesses you and you need to upgrade a special wand to get rid of it.
After 60 hours with the game, I actually didn’t manage to even complete the main story of the game, but I did manage to go through most of its sidequests and reach level 60, but when you hit that level 60 level cap, it feels like you slow down a bit and need to change your ways to play the game to actually continue getting better.
While its story is lacking, the gameplay really takes the center stage here, there are an infinite amount of things to focus on and do. Want to become the best lumberjack there ever was? you can cut down the whole map if you want to. The best hunter/gatherer? there are a ton of prey for you to hunt down and herbs/crops to collect. Besides that, there is of course the combat, something that is also really customizable on how you want to play. If you wanna use the best weapons you have you can, but if you wanna focus and build upon 1 weapon type you can also do that. there are over 10 different weapon types to master and each has 2 different skill trees to pick from.
Visually the game is just really stunning in ways I didn’t imagine an online game could. But sadly, some things in the visual aspect do have their downsides, and that is mainly the enemy variety. There are about 2/3 factions or enemy groups you come across on your journey, but visually, they don’t evolve much, in every area, they almost look the exact same, and if you play the game for a long time, this might be something that makes the game a little less cool over time.

Getting to go through the quests of the game is where the fun really happens, but the main story doesn’t even take you to all the regions sadly, so I hoped for a little more streamlined/linear experience, but luckily, every region has a level besides them so you can see if you are strong enough for it. While it’s not really needed to go to the regions that are optional, I do really recommend it to make your experience even better.
Another thing that is of course nice to do in MMOs is looting, and there is plenty for that. There are dungeons to explore with a group, those might take a few tries, and with some teamwork, you can get some of the best loot a region has to offer. The loot you get will impact the way your character works and can make you worse or better depending on what weapons you use.
