Forza Horizon 3 Review (Xbox One)

The 3rd game in the Forza Horizon series is a good game at some points, but its lack of story and mindless driving does get boring at some points. Here are our Forza Horizon 3 Review (Xbox One)!

Forza Horizon 3 is developed by Turn 10 Studios and Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios. It came out for PC and Xbox One in 2016. For this review, we played through the game until after completing the final showdown (Final “Main Race”).

The game is generally pretty good. It took all the good stuff from the first two games, but sadly also some of the bad things. Mainly the mindless driving is one of these things. Other than upgrading the 4 main points, there is not really any reason to do any races. Something that also bothered me in Forza Horizon 2, but they did improve on it at least a little bit to make it a bit more fun.

Visually the game is stunning, but there is 1 thing that was super annoying and distracting at the start and that is the rain. Sadly, in the beginning, the rain just blurs the screens and makes it just so hard to drive, it was almost like you got hit by the ink squid in Mario Kart, it was that bad.

Forza Horizon 3 Review (Xbox One)

When I compare this game visually to Forza Horizon 2, it does look even better than how that looked, the shine on the cars and the surrounding areas are nice to look at and not really a bother. The areas of the game also feel fresh every time you do a race. In Forza Horizon 2, every race looked exactly the same, so I’m happy about how they improved on that part of the game.

The overall feel of the game has changed a ton and is so much closer to what I’ve been seeing in Forza Horizon 4 and 5. From map structure to the map being filled with races to do. And the number of races to do is sure a nice change, you can just go around the map completing them wherever you want and you won’t get locked to 1 location for a bunch of races, this makes a nice change of scenery throughout most of the game.

Something Forza Horizon 3 really lacks is a story, while its gameplay is great, the missing story is just so boring. There are 0 reasons to care about actually doing stuff, stripping this is one of my biggest dislikes about the game, especially since Forza Horizon 1 did kinda have a story and cutscenes while here you just get a random cutscene in the beginning and end, that’s it.

If you like racing games for just racing around, play this game, you will not be let down. Do you need a “driving” force to actually do stuff, then this game is not something that really you should play and I would recommend Forza Horizon 5 or even the 1st game a lot more.

    SUMMARY

While this game is better than the 2nd game in the series, Forza Horizon 3 still feels like it lacks the drive to actually do stuff or to try and get a goal toward reaching something.
